Saksham: Vocational Unit

The Vocational Training Unit at Iswar Sankalpa, aims at training home-based and homeless persons with psychosocial disabilities in skills which will help them earn a livelihood, foster self-dependence, and help them engage in a dignified manner.

The vocational unit works across the women shelter, men shelter, day care centers and urban mental health programme, engaging both homeless persons with psychosocial disabilities and those from low income groups and slum settlements with mental health conditions. The organisation also links individuals to external training centers to pick up more specialized skills sets.

The in-house training covers the following product line;

  • Paper products like paper bags, notepads, files and folders, gift bags, cards and envelopes
  • Jewellery like necklaces, earrings, bracelets
  • Home furnishings like table mats, coasters, trays, and assorted stands
  • Accessories like make-up pouches, and toilet kits,
  • Bags, pouches, jholas and batuas
  • Festival products like diyas and holi colours

These products are then marketed and sold at various exhibitions, through personal/ institutional/ organisational orders, via tie ups with hotels and boutiques and through online avenues throughout the year. The training and sales help the clients earn money, to facilitate their self-dependence and confidence.
